Invisalign® FAQs – Mason Park Dental For Kids, Katy, TX

Straightening your child’s smile is a big decision, and parents often have many questions about Invisalign® treatment. At Mason Park Dental For Kids, we want you to feel confident, informed, and fully supported as your child begins their dental journey. Below, you’ll find answers to the most commonly asked questions about Invisalign® for kids and teens.

General Invisalign® Questions

1. What is Invisalign®?

Invisalign® is a modern dental system that uses clear, removable aligners to gently shift teeth into their ideal position. It offers a discreet alternative to traditional metal braces.

2. Is Invisalign® safe and effective for children?

Yes. Invisalign® is safe for kids and teens and is effective for treating many dental cases, including crowding, gaps, overbites, and underbites.

3. How is Invisalign® different from traditional braces?

Invisalign® uses clear, smooth plastic aligners instead of metal brackets and wires. They are nearly invisible, removable, and typically more comfortable.

Invisalign® Treatment Process

1. How does the Invisalign® process begin?

Treatment starts with a consultation with Dr. Tam Nguyen, where we evaluate your child’s teeth and discuss their dental goals.

2. What is a digital scan?

A digital scan uses 3D imaging to create a custom treatment plan and fabricate aligners made specifically for your child’s teeth.

3. How often will my child come in for checkups?

We usually schedule checkups every 6–8 weeks to monitor progress and provide the next set of aligners.

Treatment Duration & Wear Time

1. How long does Invisalign® treatment take?

Most children complete Invisalign® in 6–18 months, depending on the severity of the case.

2. How long should aligners be worn each day?

Aligners must be worn 20–22 hours per day for the best results, removed only for brushing, and flossing.

3. What happens if my child forgets to wear their aligners?

Occasional short lapses are normal, but frequent or extended periods without wearing aligners can delay treatment and affect results.

Comfort & Care

1. Is Invisalign® painful for kids?

Your child may feel mild pressure when switching to a new set of aligners, but this discomfort is typically minimal and far less than with traditional braces.

2. How do we clean Invisalign® aligners?

Clean aligners daily using a soft toothbrush and lukewarm water. Avoid hot water, which can warp the plastic.

3. Will Invisalign® irritate my child’s mouth?

Aligners are made of smooth, BPA-free plastic designed to prevent irritation to the gums and cheeks.

Eating & Oral Hygiene

1. Are there food restrictions with Invisalign®?

No! Because aligners are removable, your child can continue eating their favorite foods without restrictions.

2. How does Invisalign® affect brushing and flossing?

Since aligners are removed during cleaning, brushing and flossing are much easier and more effective than with traditional braces.

3. Can my child drink with aligners in?

Only water is recommended. Sugary or hot beverages can damage the aligners or cause buildup.

Candidacy & Suitability

1. Is my child a good candidate for Invisalign®?

Kids and teens with mild to moderate misalignment, crowding, gaps, overbites, or underbites are often great candidates for Invisalign®.

2. Does my child need to be responsible to use Invisalign®?

Yes. Since aligners are removable, children must be responsible enough to wear them consistently.

3. What if my child loses an aligner?

Contact our office right away. We may advise moving to the next set or replacing the lost tray, depending on your child’s progress.

Cost, Insurance & Additional Options

1. Is Invisalign® covered by insurance?

Many dental insurance plans-including Delta Dental, Cigna, and others-offer partial coverage for dental treatment, including Invisalign®. Our team can review your policy for you.

2. Do you offer payment plans for Invisalign®?

Yes. We provide flexible financing options and accept Alphaeon, Lending Club, and CareCredit to help make treatment affordable.

3. Can Invisalign® be combined with whitening or cosmetic options?

Absolutely. Once Invisalign® treatment is complete, professional whitening or restorations such as porcelain veneers or crowns can enhance your child’s final smile.
